Ignition FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is Ignition?

Ignition is a series of three live music events in The Classic Grand's really cool upstairs venue. The aim for YRock, Hear Glasgow and Real Radio XS is to provide a meaningful opportunity for young bands, we will be working with a variety of partners to offer value across the board for all bands taking part.

The final part of Ignition will be a live showcase event at Glasgow's Old Fruitmarket, three bands from our initial showcases will be invited to play at this event, which is an amazing opportunity to perform in such an iconic venue.

How will you decide who gets to play the fruitmarket?

We will put together a group of people (yes, you could call them judges) and will review each showcase and look for the bands we feel would add the most value to the final showcase at The Old Fruitmarket. We will be looking at a variety of factors including:

-Origininalty

-Attitude

-Time Keeping

-Quality of Music

-Fan base

There will be future opportunities for all of the bands involved and also for those who perhaps entered and weren't able to be involved this time around. We work with bands every month of every year and we feel this is one way we can offer a great opportunity to bands.

Who is this for?

YRock and Hear Glasgow want Ignition to cover and showcase as much Glasgow music talent as possible, we are really keen to get both high school bands and older more established acts involved, there is something for everyone and we hope that by bringing everyone together we will help boost the fan base's for everyone involved and build new relationships for the Glasgow music scene.

In other words, it's open to everyone and no matter where you are in your band's rock timeline whether your just starting out or have an EP ready and are about to go on tour, we plan on making this an amazing promotion and well worth while getting on board.

What about backline and equipment for the event?

A full backline will be provided for the bands, all the bands will need are there instruments and for the drummers (the usual stuff) breakables, cymbals snare etc.. guitar leads, effects pedals etc should also be brought if needed.

What promotion will YRock and other partners be doing for the event?

We have planned a variety of promotional methods, these may include radio exposure through Real Radio XS (and other independent stations), a poster campaign across education and community groups and the city itself, video interviews, live filming. We also have partners working on PR strategies.

Please note that we say "may include", becuase we will identify as the momentum builds the best ways to promote the events, our plan is to do everything mentioned above and more, and we hope to achieve this and will amend this section as the elements are fully confirmed.

Can I get involved in the promotion?

Yes. At YRock we have always had an open door policy to people looking to be involved in promotions and events, in fact, for the last 4 years we have regularly had students from Glasgow Caledonian University volunteering with us on internships. A variety of roles will be available for this promotion and we hope that each role will help to enhance CV's and increase employability.

There will be limited spaces, and we would ask that those interested apply through the website, we will keep details on file if you wish and this may lead to future opportunities outside this promotion.

Will Bands have to sell tickets for the showcase events at Classic Grand?

Put simply, Yes.

Tickets will be priced at £6 and bands will be given a cut of the sales based on the standard ticket deals run by rock, these deals are viewed to be fair and have been a standard for YRock for over 5 years. We are aware of the stigma that some promotions get and we aim to be fully transparent, our goal is to run successful events and there is nobody better than the bands to reach their fan base.

While we don't necessarily feel the need to publicly declare this, having been around for a while we are aware of some really outragious and exploitative promotions and we want musicians, parents, teachers, managers, record labels... whoever... to understand that from day one of planning this promotion the value for bands has been at the forefront of our thoughts. We think we've achieved this goal and are really proud of the hard work that's been put in so far.

No Simon Cowell wannabe's in the YRock Office....

Remember that everyone who takes part in Ignition will get to come to the Old Fruitmarket for FREE! That's a big venue and a great gig!
